There are currently five zebra finch societies, who are members of the Zebra Finch Federation in Australia.  These societies meet nationally once a year, with a different society hosting the federation on a rotation basis.

The Federation is held over a weekend.  On the Saturday a Federation meeting is held with two delegates from each society being represented.  The meeting is a discussion of points raised during the year in regard to the national standard and any other related zebra finch issues.  On the Sunday, the Federation show is held.  Each society bring a selection of zebras to show.  The colours are planned in advance, so all societies know what colours are being shown which enables them to breed and work toward filling these classes throughout the year.

After the show, the winning society and individuals receive trophies or diplomas.

The meeting and show is held in a hall or hotel, with accommodation being available and most meals arranged.  A main dinner is held on the Saturday evening.

The host society, usually arranges aviary visits on the following Monday and some societies also arrange a trip for those interested afterwards.

The Federation Show is the "ultimate" for Zebra Finch societies in Australia and is what many club members breed towards and aim for during the year.  The standards created by the Federation Societies, is what each club use as a guide to showing and breeding zebra finches in Australia.  Only members of a Federation zebra finch society can show in a Federation.  Zebra's must be rung and owner bred.  You can only obtain rings by being a member of a Federation zebra finch society, where as a member, you can also purchase a copy of the Zebra Finch Standard.
